UK & The Euro
We believe that the United Kingdom will eventually join the Euro, along with about a dozen others countries. It is not known whether any official plans have been made to produce pattern designs for a set of British euro coins. It is likely that if any designs have already been considered, they will have been kept top secret for political reasons. What would the Government tell us of their plans if they thought that we didn't need to know. These designs, although un-official must had been sanctioned by officialdom somewhere as they conform in every way to the Euro stereotype, with official royal portraits.

Unofficial Patterns
On a number of previous occasions, especially before major coinage changes, pattern coins have been produced as a design exercise or to test public opinion. Many of these have been privately produced.
The pattern coins bear four different designs for the nine circulation type coins from 5 Euro to 1 cent.
These coins have been produced as patterns or prototypes to show what British Euros would look like, and are the same dimensions and composition as the European euro coins, but have distinctive new designs on both obverse and reverse, the Queen's portrait for the "British" side, and a suggested new set of designs for the "European" side.

There are 1,2,5,10,20,50 cents, bimetallic 1 and 2 Euro coins, and a large 5 euro with a distinctive British design in keeping with the ruling that larger denominations of Euro coins will be solely for use in the country of issue.

We are still in the infancy stage of the U.K. having it's own Euro coins, because we are, of course, not members of the Euro zone - but be sure of something - WE WILL BE. Within a year, or so, I see Britian anouncing that they will soon be joining the 12 other main countries already using these coins. Then watch the boom in the market for collectors Euro coins.
