OTHER COMMENTS: Issued 24 years before the French Revolution in 1789 this promissory note was from "Le Mublais &
Cie" (?) to Madame Guyard. The Negotiator was Monsieur Morange and the note is for 1400 Livres. Livres were a main currency
unit in France at that time, being succeded by the 'Ecu' in 1789 - An 'Ecu' was worth six livres. The note is issued on
1 June 1765, and promises to pay on the 10th September next to Madame Guyard or her order, the sum of fourteen hundred
Livres in money current at the time. It is signed by 'Your very humble servants' followed by the company name.
On the reverse the note is signed over by Mme. Guyard to Monsieur Fineau at Angers on the Ninth June, One thousand
seven hundred sixty five. This clarifies the date on the front (top right) which could be mistaken for 1769.
Further signed over to Monsieur Lallard(?) at Angers, 20 June 1765. Note that the ink used for this transfer has
glitter in it. Mmmm. How terribly outré. There is a further assignment to Monsieur Cheneau on 21 July 1765. There is
then the signature of Cheneau followed by a word I cannot read, and then a statement "Pay to the order of Monsieur Richard
.... general of Finances or on his absence to Monsieur Lefebre his cashier. Value on account received and signed by Lefebre.
2mm nick at top right corner.
