JAPANESE IMPORTED COINAGE

This page concentrates on the coins which were imported by Japan mainly from China. We start with Chinese 'spade' and 'knife' money continuing almost up to the end of the sixteenth century. Although these coins did not circulate amongst every level and area of the population, they were used in some transactions by some of the people. We show as many types as we can find at the moment and more will be added as and when available.

This is not a list of coins for sale, it is for identification purposes only
