Bearer - This 18th Century cheque is a scarce item from a bank which failed in 1837. A loan was taken
out and all debts repaid in full. What a difference from today. Sir
James Esdaile was an Alderman, then Sherrif, then Lord Mayor of the City of
London. He was also a Director of the 'Hand in Hand' Fire Insurance
company. The Drawer is William Mills, who was a 'long time' Director of
the East India Company. Printed on high quality "Laid" paper with the
watermark "E & P 1798" - in excellent condition with only a single
sealed spike hole |
