Reading 1877 4073 30478 £ 22.50 RAC Black on white with an all-over purple underprint, except for the area surrounding the clear embossed oval duty stamp - nice vignette showing Head Office & 3 branches. Payable to Chas. W. Stephenson - and drawn by John Waterer, this cheque was used as evidence in the case of Waterer v. Waterer, held in the High Court of Justice - Chancery Division on 2nd May 1891 - nearly 13 years after it was written. The case number is 1872 W. No: 11. On the reverse is written "This is the cheque marked "G" referred to in the Affidavit of John Waterer. Sworn this 2nd day of May 1891 before me 'John Clear' a Commissioner &c" - This "G" is also hand-stamped at top centre on the front - There is a stain at the lower left (no, not a blood stain). In lower margin London agents amended from Messrs Willis & Co to Barnetts Hoares & Co (over-printed in red) - C/B: It is crossed in manuscript, and hand-stamped "London Joint Stock Bank" - An extremely interesting cheque
