Bearer - Black on fawn coloured background,
with a single security panel behind the amount in figures. Address in a
curved line at top left. Signed by Frederick George Bedford - Commander
RN. - There are two straight line handstamps on the face - "London and
Provincial Bank Limited, Cardiff", and "London & County".
3 of 4 obvious fold lines, and a little crumpled at top left corner.
There are various stains and marks with a 2mm edge nick.
O'Byrne Brothers - Navy Agents are listed on Page 71 of the British Almanac for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge - 1882 page 71. The O'Byrne Brothers were - William
Richard O'Byrne, of Cabinteely House, Cabinteely, in the County of
Dublin, Ireland, and Robert O'Byrne, of 9, Linden Gardens, Bayswater, in
the county of Middlesex. Robert O'Byrne was the author of "A Naval History of our Own Times, A Naval Chronicle of 1874, and published other editions for a few years after that. Most booksellers have only heard of two editions, and this rare book sells for around $400. The dissolution of their Partnership on the 25th December 1979 was announced in the LONDON GAZETTE, JANUARY 20, 1880. They were then described as Army and Navy Agents, and also as Newspaper Proprietors, of two Newspapers called the Wellington Gazette and the Naval Chronicle.
