Reading c.1860 682 SOLD BROWN - BEARER cheque. Un-used - SPECIMEN (D). A  cheque by ASHBY & Co, or BACON & Co - not sure which, as both seem to have a hand in this cheque. Maybe there was a merger between the two, but, as yet, I can't trace it. One of the other cheques in this group carries a seal of Bacon & Co which has an 'EC' post code, and another is watermarked 1860, thus confirming the date estimate. A scroll vignette at the left. Printed date 185...

Specimen (D) is printed from the surface, on white paper, and grounded with vegetable ink, a combination of SPECIMENS type A and B thus forming the MOST PERFECT and UNALTERABLE cheque. - SAME as item above but different colour and darkened at r.h.s - corners rounded.

A copy of the front and back covers of the SPECIMEN book is included.
